Mayor and city council. The mayor and a six-member city council serve staggered four-year terms and are elected on an at-large, nonpartisan basis. The council meets 2nd & 4th Tues. 7 p.m. at the Washington Street Education Center, 500 Washington. Mayor: Ann Feeney. Council members: Cheri Albertson, Rod Anderson, Frank Hammer, William Holmberg, Jason Lindauer, and Kent Martinez-Kratz. City elections are held annually on the day after the 1st Mon. in Nov. (Nov. 3, 2009). City residents may register to vote at the municipal offices at 305 S. Main or at the Michigan Secretary of State offices (Chelsea office: 1113 S. Main, 888-767-6424) or online at michigan.gov/sos.

City planning commission meets third Tues. 7 p.m., Washington Street Education Center, 500 Washington. www.city-chelsea.org/commissions/planning_commission

Chelsea police nonemergency number: 475-9122.

Chelsea Downtown Development Authority, 305 S. Main, suite 100. Mike Jackson, 475-1606. Maintains and improves the appearance of downtown Chelsea. Board meets third Thurs. 7:30 a.m. in the lower level conference room.
