Public Schools


The Chelsea School District comprises Chelsea and the surrounding area. Enrollment for 2007-2008 was 2,712 students. Administrative offices (433–2208) are at 500 Washington. Superintendent: David Killips. chelsea.k12.mi.us

The school board meets two Mon. a month, 7 p.m., at the administrative offices. Elections are held annually on the day after the first Mon. in May (May 5, 2009). Trustees serve a four-year term. Trustees: Jon Bentley (secretary), Sally DeVol (treasure), Anne Mann, Laurel McDevitt (president), Steve Olsen (vice-president), Rob Turner, and Jeff Crowder. www.chelsea.k12.mi.us

Beach Middle School (grades 7 & 8), 445 Mayer. 433–2202. Principal Patrick Little.

Career and technical education. Director Jody Gielinski, 429–8060, ext. 8061. The South and West Washtenaw Consortium provides career and technical instruction and arranges cooperative education, internships, and work experience for high school students.

Special education. Director Jim Woodhams, 433–2202, ext. 2006. Early intervention, early childhood classrooms for ages 3–5 who meet eligibility criteria, county and local teacher consultants, resource rooms, speech and language services, occupational and physical therapists, school psychologists and social workers, and administrative support. Countywide programs are available for elementary and secondary students with emotional or behavioral challenges, autism, hearing impairments, or severe cognitive or multiple impairments. jwoodhams@gmail.chelsea.k12.mi.us
