Manchester Community Schools
The Manchester Community Schools serve Manchester and a 125-square-mile surrounding area. Total enrollment for 20072008 was 1,254 students. Administrative offices (4289711) are at 410 City Rd. Superintendent: Shawn Lewis-Lakin. www.mcs.k12.mi.us
The school board meets the third Mon. 7 p.m. in the Ackerson Building board room. Elections are held annually on the day after the first Mon. in May (May 5, 2009). Members serve four-year terms. Special education. Director Kathleen Lixey, 4289711, ext. 1008. The Manchester Community School district has programs to meet the needs of all children from birth to age 26. Early intervention services through Early On (birth-age 3) and First Steps Washtenaw/Parents as Teachers (birth-age 6), early childhood special education classrooms (ages 2.5-7) for children who meet eligibility criteria. Services include: speech and language services, occupational and physical therapy, school psychologist, school social workers, positive behavioral supports, teacher consultants, resource rooms, or countywide centralized services for those students with severe multiple impairments whose individual education plan determine this level of service is needed. klixey@mcs.k12.mi.us
