Saline Area Schools


The Saline Area Schools serve Saline and a surrounding area of about 100 square miles. Enrollment for the 2006–2007 school year was 5,500. Administrative offices (429–8000) are at the Historic Union School, 200 N. Ann Arbor St. www.salineschools.com

The school board meets second Tues. 7 p.m. & fourth Tues. 6:30 p.m. at the Union School building. Elections are held annually on the day after the first Mon. in May (May 8, 2007). Trustees serve four-year terms. Trustees: Lisa Slawson (president), Trudy Driscoll (vice president), Paul Hyneck (secretary), Bari Livsey, David Friese, and David Medley.

Pooh Corner Preschool, 555 Mills. 429–8024. Nationally accredited preschool operated by Saline Community Education. Ages 3–5. Two full-time teachers in each classroom. Saline Alternative Education (grades 9–12), 200 N. Ann Arbor St. 429–8000, ext. 2054. Administrative supervisor Scot Graden, 429–8023. For students not reaching their potential. Call for application.

Career and technical education. Director Jody Gielinski, 429–8060. The South and West Washtenaw Consortium provides career and technical instruction and arranges cooperative education, internships, and work experience for high school students.

Special education. Director Neal Elyakin, 429–8006. Early intervention, early childhood classrooms for children ages 3–5 who meet eligibility criteria, county and local teacher consultants, resource rooms, speech and language services, occupational and physical therapists, school psychologists and social workers, and administrative support. Countywide programs are available for elementary and secondary students with emotional or behavioral challenges, autism, hearing impairments, or severe cognitive or multiple impairments. www.salineschools.com/departments.html
